VIDEO Chinese Embassy strengthens ties with NUJ FCT Council, visits secretariat
The Chinese Embassy in Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to furthering its partnership with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council. This was highlighted by the Chinese Deputy Ambassador Prof He Shurong during a visit to the NUJ FCT Secretariat in Abuja on Thursday.
The Deputy Ambassador was warmly welcomed by the NUJ FCT Council Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike, along with other key members of the council, including Vice Chairman Comrade Yahaya Ndambabo, Secretary Comrade Jide Oyekunle, and Treasurer Comrade Sandra Udeike.
Also present at the meeting were Mrs Bassey Ita Ikpang, Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) FCT, Mr Charles Onunaiju, Director for China Studies, Mr Chris Ogodo, CEO of TV Xtra Productions and General Editor of Arise News, Ebriku John Friday, News Editor of NUJ FCT News Portal, and Ms Sharoneez Emephia, a member of the Council’s media team.

During her welcoming remarks, Comrade Ike expressed gratitude to the Chinese Embassy for its continued partnership with the NUJ FCT Council over the years. She also called for a deeper and more mutually beneficial collaboration that would enhance the relationship between the two sides.
In response, the Deputy Ambassador, Prof. Shurong assured that the embassy would continue to support the NUJ’s cultural exchange programmes, training initiatives, and infrastructure development efforts. He further explained that this partnership would provide a platform for the Chinese Embassy to work closely with Nigerian journalists, helping to share the positive stories of the growing bilateral relationship between China and Nigeria.

The visit also included a tour of the NUJ FCT Secretariat’s facilities, with Comrade Ike showing the Deputy Ambassador and his team around the administrative building, Congress hall, and other areas within the premises.
This strengthened collaboration holds significant promise for both nations, especially in terms of fostering cultural exchange, enhancing mutual understanding, and promoting economic cooperation between China and Nigeria. As both countries continue to work together, the partnership is expected to bring increased opportunities for trade, investment, and development, benefiting not only the media but also the broader public in both nations.
