BREAKING: Court sentences BRT Driver to death over Rape, Murder of Bamise Ayanwola

Justice Serifat Sonaike of the Lagos High Court, sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square, has convicted and sentenced Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) driver, Andrew Ominikoron, to death by hanging for the rape and murder of 22-year-old fashion designer, Bamise Ayanwola.
Delivering the judgment on Thursday, May 2, 2025, the presiding judge declared that the Lagos State Government, which prosecuted the case, successfully proved beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant was guilty of the crime.
While reading the verdict, Justice Sonaike ruled, “That for the death of Oluwabamise Ayanwola, you will be hanged by the neck until you are dead. May God have mercy upon you.”
Andrew Ominikoron was charged with four counts, including rape, conspiracy with others still at large, and the murder of Bamise, which occurred along the Lekki-Ajah Conservation expressway on February 26, 2022.
