Devastating fire engulfs Sokoto’s Kara market

It was a chaotic morning on March 1, 2025, in Sokoto State, Nigeria, as a massive fire erupted at the bustling Kara Market.
The market, renowned for its vibrant trade in grains and other essential commodities, was suddenly engulfed in flames.
The fire, which began early Saturday morning, spread rapidly, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Several grain stores and shops were reduced to ashes, with over 50 shops and 132 grinding machines destroyed.
The market’s stock of rice, millet, and beans was also severely affected.
As the fire raged on, panic gripped the area. The cause of the blaze remained a mystery, but the state fire service department sprang into action to bring the inferno under control.
Meanwhile, residents living nearby were seen hastily moving their belongings to safety, fearful that the fire might spread to their homes.
Despite the chaos, market officials and local authorities were working diligently to maintain order and prevent looting.
Their efforts focused on ensuring public safety and minimizing further damage.
As the situation unfolded, the community came together to support those affected by the disaster, offering hope for recovery and rebuilding in the days ahead.
