Relationships, especially long-term ones like marriage, do not thrive on autopilot. A marriage is much like an empty farmland: you must deliberately cultivate the kind of crops you wish to harvest.

You must be intentional and deliberate to achieve the desired outcomes in your relationship. Love your spouse or partner in the way they want to be loved, not merely how you prefer to express love or receive it.

Find ways to bring a smile to your partner’s face. Consider the things that concern them, and look for ways to be helpful and uplifting. Be their emotional support.

Organise intentional lunch or dinner dates to keep the spark alive. Gentlemen, your partner doesn’t have to cook every single day. Be thoughtful, selfless, and willing to make sacrifices in your relationship.

It takes two to build a meaningful relationship or marriage. Sadly, it takes only one person’s disregard to tear it apart, no matter how wonderful the other partner may be.

An engaging and fulfilling sex life can act as the glue that holds everything together in a marital relationship. Create a cosy and inviting atmosphere at home and in the bedroom that fosters love and intimacy.

Good personal hygiene is essential. Bathe at least twice daily, and ensure your private areas are kept clean and fresh. Brush your teeth regularly, and use mouthwash if brushing isn’t immediately possible. Choose pleasant body sprays, keep your hair tidy, and trim your nails regularly if you are a man. Ladies, maintain well-manicured nails. Wear house clothes that are visually appealing; men should look presentable, and women should not be afraid to wear something that might captivate their husband’s attention. Leave nothing to chance.

Finally, speak kindly. Let your tone be gentle and respectful, especially when addressing sensitive issues. Words, once spoken, cannot be taken back. Always take a moment to reflect before speaking. When upset or uncertain, speak less.

The outside world is already filled with enough stress, from the streets to the workplace, so make your home a genuine sanctuary for both you and your partner, a refuge from life’s daily storms.

Do you feel me?
