FG cancels Independence Parade, confirms other Anniversary events will hold
The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the Independence Anniversary parade earlier scheduled to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day on Wednesday, 1 October.
In a statement issued on Monday by Mr. Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), the government explained that the decision does not in any way diminish the significance of the milestone, assuring that other activities lined up for the celebration would still take place.
“The cancellation is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary, and the government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th year of independence with dignity and enthusiasm,” the statement read.
It further noted that the government regrets any inconvenience caused by the cancellation and expressed appreciation for the support and cooperation of Nigerians, members of the diplomatic community, and invited guests.
The Federal Government also called on citizens to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda, stressing that their collective support was vital in building “a greater nation.”
