Fubara inspects rebuilt Assembly Complex, says 2026 Budget will be presented in upgraded chamber
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed confidence that he will present the 2026 Appropriation Bill inside the fully reconstructed Rivers State House of Assembly Complex.
The governor gave the assurance after inspecting the ongoing renovation work being handled by Monier Construction Company Limited (MCC). He was accompanied by Hon. Boniface Emerengwa, who represents Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency, alongside MCC’s management team.
Fubara said he was impressed with the level of work already completed, noting that the complex should be ready by the end of December 2025. He added that his administration is committed to finishing the project on schedule so that lawmakers can return to the chamber for legislative business.
He stated that once the chamber is ready, he will present the 2026 budget there, as expected by law.
The assembly complex was damaged on October 29, 2023, after an explosion involving suspected dynamite at the height of the political crisis between the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, and Governor Fubara.
During the inspection, Fubara said, “We have been working hard to ensure their permanent sitting chamber is put in place. You know the drama that surrounded our relationship before, but by the grace of God, now that everything has been sorted out, it is our desire to ensure that the Assembly members return to their normal place of sitting.”
He explained that work on the site continued even during the emergency rule, contrary to the belief that nothing was happening. The governor said he was satisfied with progress, noting that the contractor has already sublet interior and external finishing to Julius Berger Nigeria Plc to speed up the project and meet the deadline.
Fubara added that once the main chamber is completed, the remaining parts of the complex will be handled by the legislature when they resume at the building.
