Imo Police begin investigation into Officers who assaulted female witness
The Imo State Police Command has launched an investigation into an alleged assault on a woman who helped the police in an ongoing case.
Reports said the woman was attacked by some officers after she provided useful information that assisted an investigation in the state.
Police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday. He said the state Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has ordered a full probe to identify and punish the officers involved.
According to the statement, the command will not tolerate any form of abuse or misconduct from its personnel, especially against citizens who assist law enforcement.
“The Commissioner of Police has directed that the officers be arrested, interrogated, and if found guilty, face appropriate disciplinary actions,” Okoye said.
He assured the public that the victim will get justice and urged residents to continue supporting the police by providing information that can help fight crime in the state.
