Kogi Police deny rumoured bandit’s invasion of local communities

The Kogi State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that bandits invaded several communities in the state.

In a statement on Thursday, the state Police Public Relations Officer said the rumour was false and intended to cause unnecessary panic among residents. The command clarified that no attack occurred in any part of Lokoja or neighbouring communities, contrary to claims that armed groups had infiltrated the area.

The police added that officers had been deployed to conduct thorough patrols and surveillance following the viral posts, but no suspicious movement was detected. The command urged members of the public to rely on verified information and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports.

Residents were assured that adequate security measures remain in place, with tactical teams positioned across the state to respond to any genuine threats. The command also encouraged citizens to report emergencies through its official distress lines.

The police warned that individuals responsible for creating or circulating false security alerts would face legal consequences.
