NUJ FCT Seeks Partnership with NSCDC to Enhance Security in Abuja

In a bid to address persistent security challenges in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Chapter, has taken steps to partner with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The collaboration aims to strengthen security measures and improve the safety of lives and property across the capital.
During a courtesy visit to the FCT NSCDC Commandant, Dr Olusola Odumosu, on Thursday, the NUJ delegation, led by its first female Chairman in 43 years, Comrade Grace Ike, emphasised the importance of synergy between the media and security agencies. Other members of the delegation included the Vice Chairman, Comrade Yahaya Ndambabo; Secretary, Comrade Jide Oyekunle; Treasurer, Comrade Sandra Udeike; and journalists Alhaji Isiaka Mustapha and Comrade Ebriku John Friday.
Dr Odumosu, while expressing excitement about the collaboration, revealed that the command had recently trained 137 officers on advanced arms and weapons handling. He praised Comrade Ike’s leadership and assured the union of NSCDC’s commitment to working closely with journalists to enhance security awareness among residents.
Speaking on the partnership, Comrade Ike highlighted the vital role of the NSCDC in safeguarding public safety and underscored the need for cooperation to improve security operations and reportage.
“The NSCDC has consistently been at the forefront of ensuring public safety. Collaborating with the media will boost security awareness, foster informed reporting, and encourage public vigilance,” Ike said.
She outlined the objectives of the partnership as enhancing public security awareness, leveraging media platforms to disseminate critical information, and ensuring mutual benefits for the NSCDC and journalists.
Expressing optimism, Ike remarked, “This collaboration will be instrumental in fostering a safer and more informed society.”
The NSCDC Commandant assured the NUJ delegation of the corps’ readiness to support their efforts, recognising the media’s pivotal role in bridging the gap between security agencies and the public.
