One dead as Highlander crashes into Bus at Volkswagen Bus Stop, Lagos
Tragedy struck in Lagos on Monday morning when the driver of a Toyota Highlander lost his life after crashing into a commercial bus that was illegally picking up passengers at Volkswagen bus stop, inward Mile 2.
The accident involved a Toyota Highlander with registration number APP 150 EY and a commercial T4 bus marked KJA 328 XH. Witnesses said the Highlander, which was moving at high speed, lost control and rammed into the stationary bus with great impact, killing its driver instantly.
Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) arrived at the scene shortly after the crash, removed the body from the wreckage, and handed it over to the Ojo Police Division. The corpse was later deposited at C-Niger Mortuary, Abule Ado.
The incident caused heavy traffic along the Mile 2 corridor until LASTMA officials cleared the wreck and towed both vehicles to Ojo Police Division for further investigation.
LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the deceased’s family while cautioning motorists against speeding and reckless driving. He condemned the common practice of commercial drivers picking passengers indiscriminately by the roadside, stressing that designated bus stops must be used.
According to him, “The sanctity of human life must never be compromised by recklessness on our highways. We shall continue to intensify enforcement and sustain public enlightenment campaigns to prevent needless tragedies.”
