The Unyielding Voice: Auwal Musa Rafsanjani’s quest for Justice
Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, a renowned Nigerian civil rights activist, has dedicated his life to the pursuit of justice and equality. Born in Kano, he was inspired by the late Aminu Kano, a prominent figure in Nigerian politics known for his advocacy for the downtrodden.
Rafsanjani’s journey into activism began early, shaped by his exposure to influential figures like Professor Attahiru Jega and Beko Ransome-Kuti.
Early Activism
Rafsanjani’s activism roots date back to his university days at Bayero University Kano, where he studied Political Science. He became involved in the Student Movement and was elected as the Assistant-General Secretary of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in 1992.
Founding CISLAC
In 2005, Rafsanjani founded the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), a non-profit organization focused on promoting democratic governance through legislative advocacy. CISLAC has become a leading voice in Nigeria’s civil society, engaging in policy reforms and human rights advocacy.
Leadership Roles
Rafsanjani serves as the Chairman of the Board of Amnesty International Nigeria and was elected as the head of the Transition Monitoring Group (TMG) in 2021. His leadership roles underscore his commitment to ensuring electoral integrity and promoting human rights in Nigeria.
Personal Life
His personal life reflects his dedication to family alongside his activism. Despite facing numerous challenges, including arrests and intimidation, Rafsanjani remains steadfast in his pursuit of a just society.
