Emmanuel Rawlings Agada appointed Clerk of Senate
Deputy Clerk of the Senate, Emmanuel Rawlings Agada, has officially been appointed as the new Clerk of the Senate. His appointment was confirmed in a letter signed by the Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), Chief Saviour Enyiekere, following the commission’s 7th meeting held on August 6, 2025.
Agada, who had been serving as Deputy Clerk, earned recognition for his effective guidance of the Senate during plenary sessions, especially at times when the former Clerk, Mr. Andrew Nwoba, was found wanting.
His brilliance came to the fore when Senate President Godswill Akpabio approved a refresher course for Nwoba in chamber administration, during which Agada stepped in as acting Clerk and was praised for his competence.
Despite Nwoba’s return, the Senate leadership retained Agada in the role, as his understanding and interpretation of Senate rules were widely regarded as exemplary. His intelligence, charisma, and capacity endeared him to both the leadership and Senate President Akpabio.
Although Agada is reportedly approaching his exit from service, sources revealed that the Senate leadership may seek an extension of his tenure, possibly through a contractual arrangement, to ensure the institution continues to benefit from his vast legislative experience and mentorship.
Staff members and insiders describe him as one of the most senior, versatile, and experienced officers in the National Assembly, noting that every effort should be made to preserve and draw from his wealth of knowledge.
