FCT Minister vows Justice for slain Arise News Journalist Somtochukwu Maduagwu
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has pledged that those behind the killing of Arise News journalist, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, will be brought to justice.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike described Maduagwu’s death as “tragic and painful,” noting that it was a loss not just to Arise News but to the Nigerian media and the nation at large.
“I feel pained that such a wonderful soul could be cut down in its prime. It is sad!” the minister lamented. He assured that the police would investigate the incident thoroughly and ensure the perpetrators are prosecuted.
According to a report from the FCTA Mandate Secretary on Health, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, Maduagwu was brought to Maitama General Hospital dead at about 4:30 am on Monday. Wike confirmed that a preliminary medical report would be handed over to the police to aid their investigation.
The minister extended his condolences to Arise News management, particularly Chairman Prince Nduka Obaigbena, as well as Maduagwu’s family, friends, and colleagues.
“It is my prayer that God in His infinite mercies will accept her soul and give her family members, friends and associates the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” he added.
