Troops repel coordinated terrorist attacks in Borno, Yobe
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) successfully repelled multiple terrorist attacks across Borno and Yobe states, dealing heavy losses to insurgents, the Nigerian Army confirmed on Thursday.
According to the Army, terrorists launched coordinated assaults between midnight and 4 a.m. on positions in Dikwa, Mafa, Gajibo, and Katarko, located in Sector 1 (Borno) and Sector 2 (Yobe). The troops responded decisively, demonstrating professionalism and gallantry, and inflicted a “heavy, decisive, and bloody blow” on the attackers.
The offensive was supported by air assets from the Air Component Command of OPHK. “Precision strikes, combined with enhanced battlefield awareness from Theatre Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets, enabled troops to respond with overwhelming and lethal force,” the statement said. Over 50 terrorists were neutralized across all locations.
The Army also recovered a large cache of weapons, including 38 AK-47s, seven PKT machine guns, five RPG tubes, two GPMGs, hand grenades, and thousands of rounds of ammunition. Intelligence indicated that attackers in Dikwa and Gajibo came from the Cameroon axis, while those in Katarko emerged from the Timbuktu Triangle, a known terrorist stronghold.
Some troops sustained injuries but were reported to be in stable condition. Vehicles and buildings were damaged by RPGs and armed drones during the assaults, particularly in Mafa and Dikwa, where defensive lines were briefly breached.
Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force North East OPHK, praised the troops for their resilience and commitment. The military high command commended their gallantry, reaffirming Nigeria’s determination to protect its territorial integrity against insurgent threats.
