Rotary Club of Abuja Maitama leads Polio immunization drive in Duste Alhaji
The Rotary Club of Abuja Maitama, in partnership with five other Rotary Clubs under Rotary International District 9127, conducted a major polio immunization outreach on Thursday at the Duste Alhaji Primary Health Centre in Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory.
The exercise, supervised by District Governor Rotarian Funkeakpo Ken Batife from District 9126, Ibadan, was aimed at protecting children against polio and reaffirmed Rotary International’s global commitment to eradicating the disease.
Leading the team was Rotarian Maha Altine Longe, President of the Rotary Club of Abuja Maitama, joined by fellow Presidents, Rotarian Vivian Illeogbulam (Abuja Municipal), Rotarian Olubunmi Afolabi (Abuja New Dawn), Rotarian Dr. Amanambu Uche (Abuja Unity), Rotarian Gloria Ikibah (Abuja City), and leaders of the Rotary Clubs of Abuja The Ambassador and FCT Central.
District Governor Funkeakpo Ken Batife commended the clubs for their dedication, saying, “Rotary will not relent until polio is completely eradicated from every corner of the world.”
“There is no stopping until this goal is achieved.”
Rotarian Maha Altine Longe also emphasized Rotary’s unwavering mission toward a polio-free world.
“Rotary has been at the forefront of the global fight against polio for decades.
This preventive immunization exercise reaffirms our commitment to ensuring every child is protected against this preventable disease,” she said.
The outreach featured lively cultural performances, gift distribution to children and parents, and concluded successfully with all children present vaccinated.
The initiative highlighted community spirit and Rotary’s philosophy of “Service Above Self.”
Through consistent efforts like this, Rotary District 9127 continues to play a vital role in advancing public health and supporting the global campaign for a polio-free world.
