Oyo Court extends interim injunction, PDP confirms National convention will proceed

An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has extended its interim order restraining interference with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025.

The extension will remain in force until Friday, when the substantive case is set for further hearing.

Justice Ladiran Akintola, in his ruling yesterday, maintained that the interim injunction granted on an ex-parte motion filed by the claimant/applicant would continue to subsist pending the determination of the suit. After hearing submissions from both parties’ lawyers, the judge adjourned the matter to Friday.

The court also addressed an application for joinder filed by another party, ruling that it could not be entertained because it was unsigned by the deponent. Counsel to the defendant, Emmanuel Ukala, SAN, argued that the omission did not invalidate the application as the deponent’s identity was clear. Justice Akintola, however, said the application could be refiled properly.

Speaking to journalists after proceedings, counsel to the claimant, Musibau Adetunmbi, SAN, confirmed that the interim injunction remains valid and enforceable, pending the substantive hearing. The court had previously authorised the PDP to proceed with its convention as scheduled.

The PDP has reaffirmed that its National Convention will hold as planned, dismissing claims of a postponement as false and misleading. In a statement, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, National Publicity Secretary, urged members and the public to disregard misinformation allegedly propagated by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The 2025 National Convention of the PDP has not been postponed and will go on as scheduled on Saturday, 15th to Sunday, 16th November, 2025, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital,” Ologunagba stated. He accused the APC of attempting to destabilise the opposition and undermine Nigeria’s democracy, insisting that such moves will be lawfully resisted.

The PDP’s National Working Committee and the National Convention Organising Committee assured members that the event will proceed in line with previously released guidelines, timetable, and schedule of activities, despite efforts by political opponents to disrupt it.
