Obidient movement mobilisation Director steps down, cites personal reasons

The Director of Mobilisation for the Obidient Movement, the political support group backing Labour Party’s Peter Obi, has resigned from his position.

In a letter made public on Wednesday, the director announced his decision to step aside, saying it was based on personal and strategic reasons aimed at allowing the movement to reposition itself for future activities.

He expressed gratitude to members of the movement for their support and dedication, noting that working with the team had been one of the most impactful experiences of his political journey.

“After deep reflection, I have decided to step down as Director of Mobilisation to make room for new ideas and fresh leadership. The Obidient Movement remains dear to my heart, and I will continue to support its vision from another angle,” he said.

Sources within the movement said the resignation did not come as a surprise, as internal disagreements over structure and strategy have recently caused tension among key members.

However, the former director dismissed rumours of conflict, stressing that his resignation was voluntary and not linked to any political crisis.

The Obidient Movement, which emerged strongly during the 2023 general elections, has continued to serve as a major political force advocating for good governance, accountability, and youth participation in politics.

Leaders of the movement have assured members that the resignation will not disrupt ongoing plans to strengthen its nationwide mobilisation and engagement programmes.

“The movement is bigger than any individual. We respect his decision and appreciate his contribution to our growth,” a statement from the group’s national secretariat read.

The search for a new Director of Mobilisation is expected to begin soon as the group prepares for upcoming political activities across the country.
