BREAKING: President Tinubu confirms rescue of 38 worshippers in Kwara, 51 students in Niger
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu says all 38 worshippers kidnapped during the attack on Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Isegun, Eruku, in Kwara State have been rescued by security operatives.
In a statement posted on his official X account, the president also revealed that 51 of the students abducted from St. Mary’s Catholic School, Papiri, in Niger State, have been recovered.
Tinubu added that he cancelled his scheduled trip to the G20 summit in South Africa so he could personally coordinate security operations across the country. He explained that the decision became necessary to ensure quick and focused action after the wave of abductions recorded last week.
“Thanks to the efforts of our security forces over the last few days, all the 38 worshippers abducted in Eruku, Kwara State have been rescued,” he said.
He also confirmed progress in Niger State: “I am equally happy that 51 out of the missing students of the Catholic School in Niger State have been recovered.”
Tinubu noted that he had been receiving real-time reports from the frontline, assuring Nigerians that his administration would not allow criminal groups to destabilise the country.
“I am closely monitoring the security situation nationwide and receiving continuous updates from the frontline. Let me be clear: I will not relent. Every Nigerian, in every state, has the right to safety and under my watch, we will secure this nation and protect our people,” he stated.
Discovererngr reports that the president’s remarks follow a troubling week of attacks and abductions across several states.
