I am saddened by passing of Bayelsa Deputy Governor, says NIS DG

The Director General and Chief Executive officer of the National Institute for Sports, H. E. Comrade Philip Shaibu on Friday said he received with rude shock and deep sadness the news of the passing of his friend, brother and former colleague, His Excellency, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State.

Comrade Philip Shaibu who is the immediate past Deputy Governor of Edo State said His Excellency was a committed public servant who gave his best in every office he held.

He said throughout his time in service, he distinguished himself with honour, humility and an unwavering dedication to duty.

In his condolence message he personally signed to the family, the Governor of Bayelsa state and the people of the state , the NIS Boss said the late Deputy Governor was a man who loved his work, a devoted family man, and a thoughtful leader who consistently placed the welfare of the people above all else.

” He was passionate about the development of Bayelsa State and lived a life defined by service, purpose and compassion.

“I know how painful and devastating this loss is for my brother and friend, His Excellency, Governor Douye Diri. My heart is with him in this dark moment.

“I also commiserate with the family and friends of the deceased. His passing leaves a void that will not be easily filled. May the Almighty God console Governor Diri, the Ewhrudjakpo family, the good people of Bayelsa State and all who knew and loved him over this tragic loss. May his memory remain a blessing and a light.

“As a mark of respect, I have directed the cancellation of our annual family carol for this year earlier billed to hold on Sunday 14th December, 2025.

“Eternal rest grant to him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen”
