Man United set to appoint Michael Carrick as interim manager
Manchester United are close to appointing Michael Carrick as their interim manager until the end of the 2025–26 season, following the departure of former coach Rúben Amorim.
Carrick, 44, a former United midfielder and current coach at the club, has been in advanced talks with the club’s hierarchy, including CEO Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox, to finalise the terms of his temporary role.
He would take over from Darren Fletcher, who has been overseeing first-team duties on a caretaker basis since Amorim’s exit. The club hopes to have Carrick in place before the squad returns to training ahead of a crucial Premier League match against Manchester City later this month.
Carrick has previously served as caretaker manager at United in 2021 and has been involved in coaching roles at the club since retiring as a player, earning support from senior players and staff.
Manchester United are currently seventh in the Premier League and are aiming to stabilise their season as they pursue a top-four finish and a return to European competition.
This interim appointment is expected to be confirmed officially within the next 48 hours.
