APC Chieftain declares South-East Tinubu’s stronghold ahead of 2027 elections
A senior All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, Prince Paul Ikonne, has said the South-East has become a stronghold for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the ruling party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
Ikonne, a former Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), made the remark during an interview on TVC’s Politics Tonight on Tuesday.
He highlighted recent endorsements of Tinubu by South-East political leaders, defections from opposition parties, and party mobilisation efforts as evidence of growing support for the president in the region.
Ikonne said party influence in the South-East has expanded beyond geographical boundaries to include Igbo communities across the country, with leaders who command followership joining the APC fold.
Using Abia State as an example, he noted that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has weakened, with many of its members now supporting the APC, a development he said will strengthen Tinubu’s support ahead of the elections.
President Tinubu, who is seeking re-election in 2027, is expected to face stiff competition from opposition parties, with the South-East considered a key battleground.
