FCTDecides2026: Abuja streets empty amid restricted movement (Photos)

Ahead of the Area Council elections, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, ordered a restriction of movement across Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.

The directive, which was aimed at ensuring security during the polls, recorded mixed compliance across the territory. While some districts witnessed reduced vehicular movement and near-empty streets in the early hours, other areas maintained moderate activity as residents continued with their routine engagements.

Security personnel were sighted at strategic junctions and entry points, enforcing the order and monitoring movements. However, in parts of the city, commercial activities persisted, with traders, commuters and private motorists navigating the roads despite the restriction.

The development underscores the varied public response to the ministerial directive as the Federal Capital Territory prepares for the crucial local government elections.
