The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, arrived at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday afternoon as he prepares to assume leadership of the Nigeria Police Force following the resignation of his predecessor, Kayode Egbetokun.

Disu arrived at about 2:45 p.m., accompanied by two police officers, and is expected to be officially decorated as Acting IGP.

On Tuesday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had accepted Egbetokun’s resignation, citing “pressing family considerations.” The President commended Egbetokun for his decades of distinguished service, dedication, professionalism, and commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s internal security architecture.

“In view of the current security challenges confronting the nation, and acting in accordance with extant laws and legal guidance, President Tinubu has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu to serve as Acting Inspector-General of Police with immediate effect,” Onanuga stated.

Disu, a seasoned officer with extensive operational experience, now faces the task of steering the force amid rising security concerns nationwide.
