Ex-PDP Presidential aspirant Hayatu-Deen dumps party for ADC

Former presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing worsening economic hardship, insecurity and what he described as a gradual erosion of democratic values in Nigeria.

In a statement released yesterday, Hayatu-Deen said his decision was driven by concern over the country’s direction and the need for credible political alternatives ahead of the 2027 elections.

> “Like many of you, I want a safer, more prosperous future for Nigeria, but the nation faces fundamental problems that are being ignored,” he said.

Why I Entered Politics

Reflecting on his political journey, the former banker said his initial entry into politics in 2022 was motivated by a desire to contribute to national development.

“This was the motivational force behind my entry into politics in 2022, when I threw my hat into the ring as a presidential aspirant in the PDP in what was then a wide-open democratic space.”

He, however, lamented that the expectations of many Nigerians had since turned into disappointment.

“Since then, the hopes and yearnings of Nigerians have been met with bitter disappointment. This is why I have taken the decision to join the ADC which I know is the vehicle for change.”

Nigerians Want Better Governance

Hayatu-Deen said citizens across the country are demanding a government that can tackle insecurity, reduce the rising cost of living and create opportunities for families.

“Every day I hear from people across Nigeria that they want a government that is focused on fixing the problems, and delivering a safer and more prosperous future for their families.

> Aspirational Nigerians want a steady, calm and credible government alternative that will tackle insecurity, reduce the cost of living, and foster job creation.”

Democracy Under Threat

The former PDP chieftain also expressed concern over the state of Nigeria’s democracy, warning that opposition space is shrinking.

“I am also deeply concerned about the increasing shrinkage of our democratic space. Voices are being stifled, institutions are under strain, and the space for credible opposition and real choice is being systematically closed. Democracy must offer Nigerians genuine options.”

Pledges Support for ADC

Hayatu-Deen said he would bring his experience in business, reforms and philanthropy to strengthen the ADC and work towards electoral victory in 2027.

“From this day onwards until the 2027 elections, I will campaign relentlessly as a party member, to help the ADC win the elections and deliver the better future Nigeria desperately deserves.”
