Nigerian footballer dies after falling from Ugandan mall balcony
Nigerian footballer, Abubakar Lawal, has tragically passed away after reportedly falling from the third-floor balcony of a shopping mall in Uganda.
Lawal, who played as a striker for Vipers SC in Uganda’s top-flight football league, was involved in the incident at Voice Mall Shopping Arcade on the morning of February 24, 2024.
Ugandan authorities confirmed the fall and stated that CCTV footage has been recovered from the scene. Investigations are currently underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
Lawal had joined Vipers SC in 2022, moving from Rwanda’s AS Kigali.
Prior to his time abroad, he had played in Nigeria’s Premier Football League with clubs including Kano Pillars FC, Wikki Tourists FC, and Nasarawa United.
