Odefa secures re-election as PDP south-east zone unveils new leadership

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South East has elected a new zonal executive to oversee the party’s affairs in the region, with Chief Ali Odefa re-elected as Zonal Chairman. The elections were held during the party’s zonal congress at the Michael Okpara Square in Enugu on Wednesday.
Other elected officials include Hon. James Ugwu as Zonal Secretary, Mrs. Regina Uchebo as Zonal Treasurer, and Hon. Cornelius Okey Ugwu as Zonal Organizing Secretary. Additionally, Madubuike Okoro, Engr. Chigozie Igwe, Barr. Dominic Nwankwo, and Mrs. Ifeyinwa Arodiogbo were elected as Financial Secretary, Publicity Secretary, Legal Adviser, and Woman Leader, respectively. Godswill Nwanoruo and Ezeanya Augustine were chosen as Zonal Youth Leader and Auditor.
The congress also saw the election of six National Ex-officio members and five Zonal Ex-Officio members.
In his remarks, Enugu State Governor and South East PDP leader, Dr. Peter Mbah, urged party members to view elections not as personal victories, but as a step towards restoring the party’s commitment to good governance. He emphasized the importance of unity within the party, calling for a concerted effort to restore the PDP’s former glory in the region.
In his acceptance speech, Chief Odefa, speaking on behalf of the new 21-member Zonal Executive, stressed that unity was crucial for the PDP’s success, particularly in overcoming the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which the party criticized for its policies and governance failures.
The event was attended by several key figures, including the Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Barr Ifeanyi Ossai; Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara; National Secretary, Hon. SKE Ude-Okoye; Senators Sam Egwu, Osita Ngwu, and Augustine Akobundu, as well as various federal and state lawmakers, council chairmen, and other delegates from the zone. The congress was also monitored by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
