Respect energises love
‘A prophet is NOT without honour, except in his own home and amongst his own people.’ This profound statement was made by our Lord Jesus Christ, not as a recommendation, but as a painful observation of how certain people become too familiar with those of worth once they grow close or share the same space.
There is a certain awe, honour, and respect you should have for your partner or spouse (whether man or woman), because every sane and worthy person yearns to be respected and valued, regardless of how long they have been in your life.
Genuine respect is reflected in how you speak to someone, how sensitive you are to making adjustments when something you do unsettles them, and even in how you introduce your partner to your friends and family—it all reveals the level of respect you have for them. For those who are particularly sensitive, even the way you prepare and serve a meal can indicate the extent of your respect.
Investing in your mind by continually learning new things—keeping yourself intellectually fresh and engaging—shows that you respect your partner, particularly if they value stimulating conversations.
Taking care of yourself physically, making an effort to look good and smell pleasant, whether alone or in the presence of your partner, is another way to demonstrate respect. Keeping your private areas clean and fresh, regardless of gender, is also a sign of consideration and respect for your spouse.
Allowing your partner to have their private time when they ask for it, or when you clearly see they need some space, is another crucial way to show respect.
You can add to this list based on what respect means to your partner and begin to practise it deliberately.
Many potentially great relationships and marriages are falling apart due to the dangerous trap of unhealthy familiarity.
No sane person would want to leave a relationship where they are loved, respected, and supported in fulfilling their dreams and achieving their life’s goals.
Protect your relationship and preserve your marriage. Be intentionally respectful to your partner or spouse today.
Do you feel me?
