Wike travels to China to finalise Water Supply Projects for FCT Satellite Towns

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has left Nigeria for China to attend a series of official meetings aimed at enhancing water supply to Satellite Towns within the FCT.
This was made known through a statement issued by the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.
According to the statement, Wike is currently in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, from where he will proceed to China. While in China, he is scheduled to hold talks with officials of the China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction (CGCOC) Group on the water supply initiative.
The visit comes after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s trip to China in September 2024, during which a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and CGCOC Group to improve electricity and water infrastructure in the FCT.
President Tinubu had highlighted the importance of these projects as part of his Renewed Hope agenda, giving priority to basic services like potable water for satellite town residents. To support this initiative, the President approved ₦50 billion for clean water projects in Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Kuje Area Councils.
In keeping with this directive, Wike’s engagement with the CGCOC Group is expected to accelerate the implementation of the water projects.
The minister is due to return to Nigeria next week.
