Ihezuo’s lone strike sends Super Falcons to WAFCON Quarter-Finals

Nigeria’s Super Falcons continued their campaign for a record 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title with a narrow 1–0 victory over Botswana on Thursday, securing their place in the quarter-finals of the tournament’s 13th edition.

Chinwendu Ihezuo, who had earlier scored in Nigeria’s 3–0 triumph over Tunisia, delivered the decisive moment once again.

The Mexico-based striker stretched to convert a fine pass from Esther Okoronkwo, breaking the deadlock in what turned out to be a hard-fought encounter in Casablanca.

Botswana, clearly determined to keep the scoreline respectable, defended in numbers throughout the game, making it difficult for Nigeria’s attacking stars like Rasheedat Ajibade, Asisat Oshoala, Toni Payne, and Rinsola Babajide to carve out clear chances.

The Super Falcons are now set to face Algeria in their final Group B match on Sunday evening at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium.
