Brigadier-General Oseni Braimah, Captain Azubuike Michael Esimai, and other soldiers killed by terrorists in Benisheikh, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State, have been laid to rest.

The Nigerian Army confirmed in a statement posted on its official X handle that the burial ceremony took place on Wednesday at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The event, described as one marked by “deep sorrow, honour and reflection,” featured full military honours for the fallen officers and soldiers who died in active service.

According to the Army, the deceased were interred alongside other personnel who “paid the supreme price in the line of duty.”

The ceremony was attended by top government and military officials, including Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, Minister of Defence Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Army Staff Waidi Shaibu, and other senior officers.

“Amidst grieving families and fellow comrades, the fallen heroes were accorded full military honours in recognition of their selfless service and unwavering commitment to the defence of the nation,” the Army statement read.

It added that the sacrifice of the personnel serves as a reminder of the human cost of Nigeria’s ongoing security operations, especially in the North-East theatre.

“Their sacrifice serves as a poignant reminder of the heavy price paid daily by members of the Armed Forces to safeguard the peace, unity and security of Nigeria,” the statement added.
