FCT Police redeploy Divisional Officers ahead of February 21 Area Council Elections
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced the redeployment of Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) across all Area Councils ahead of the upcoming elections scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026.
The directive comes from the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD., NPM., and is being implemented by the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, psc.
According to the press release, the reshuffle is part of a comprehensive security arrangement designed to enhance operational effectiveness and ensure the highest standards of professionalism before, during, and after the elections.
CP Dantawaye urged all redeployed officers to conduct themselves with impartiality, dedication, and professionalism, emphasizing the Command’s commitment to safeguarding a free, fair, and credible electoral process.
Residents of the FCT are being called upon to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and actively participate in the democratic exercise. In line with election security measures, a total restriction of movement will be in effect across the FCT from 8:00 PM on February 20 to 6:00 PM on February 21, 2026, except for election officials and essential service providers.
The public is also urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity through the FCT Police emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
This deployment aligns with other FCT election preparations, including work-free days, restricted movement directives, and enhanced INEC oversight, as the territory prepares for a peaceful and transparent Area Council election.
