Humanity first supports Maiduguri IDPs with meals

 In a heartfelt demonstration of compassion and solidarity, Humanity First Nigeria, in partnership with its counterparts in Germany and Canada, has distributed more than 29,000 Iftar meals to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) observing Ramadan at the El-Miskin Camp, Jere Local Government Area, Maiduguri, Borno State.

The initiative was tailored to ease the burden of fasting for thousands of Muslim families living under extreme hardship in North-East Nigeria, a region deeply scarred by years of insurgency and, more recently, devastating floods.

The Chairman of El-Miskin Camp, Muhammad Hashim, praised the intervention, revealing that the camp is home to over 7,000 people, comprising more than 1,500 families spread across 21 districts.

One of the beneficiaries, Bukar Bulama, shared his story of resilience, having fled Mungonu Local Government Area over eight years ago. “I’ve longed to return to my farm, but insecurity still lingers. Last year’s floods made life in the camp even tougher. Receiving Iftar meals this Ramadan has brought great relief. We are truly grateful,” he said, while also highlighting the ongoing need for access to clean water.

Echoing this gratitude, several other camp residents expressed deep appreciation for Humanity First’s continuous humanitarian support.

Speaking on behalf of the organisation, Mr. Abdul-Qadir Abdul Rafi, team lead for disaster relief and programmes, stated that the initiative is part of Humanity First’s ongoing commitment to serving vulnerable populations, regardless of ethnicity or religious affiliation.

“This is the second phase of our support efforts in Maiduguri. The first took place in September 2024, right after the flood disaster. Humanity First has been at the forefront of global disaster response, and this year we’re proud to celebrate 30 years of service to humanity,” he said.

With steadfast dedication, Humanity First continues to bring light to communities battered by conflict and crisis—one meal, one act of kindness at a time.
