Ramadan begins Saturday as Sultan confirms Moon sighting
The President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared that the Ramadan fast will begin on Saturday, 1st March 2025.
The announcement follows the sighting of the new crescent moon in several parts of Nigeria on the evening of Friday, 28th February 2025.
In a live broadcast, the Sultan confirmed that moon sighting reports were received from various states, including Sokoto, Borno, Yobe, Zamfara, and Plateau.
He called on Muslims nationwide to take advantage of this sacred period for spiritual renewal, prayers for national peace and development, and acts of kindness towards those in need.

His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto has announced that Saturday, March 1st, marks the beginning of Ramadan 1446, following confirmed sighting reports from Maiduguri and Bama.
