Criminal gangs responsible for a spate of violent robberies across Gwagwalada, Apo, Waru, Jahi, Wuse, and other parts of the Federal Capital Territory have engaged police in a series of gun battles, resulting in the arrest of 13 suspects.

The FCT Police Commissioner, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, confirmed that the operation followed credible intelligence tracing the gang to a hideout in Durumi, where the suspects opened fire on the police team. Officers responded decisively, arresting eight suspects in the initial exchange.

A follow-up operation at a second hideout in Apo-Waru led to another gunfight, resulting in the arrest of five additional members of the syndicate. The gang had earlier carried out violent raids in Asokoro, Mabuchi, and Utako. The suspects were positively identified through CCTV footage from their previous operations.

The arrested suspects include Yahaya Hassan, Umar Shuaibu, Adamu Ibrahim, Abubakar Sani, Abdullazeez Usain, Aliyu Aminu, Aliyu Adam, Ibrahim Usman, Suleiman Yawata, Mohammed Ali, Sani Hamza, and Hassan Abba.

Items recovered from the suspects include a grey 2015 Toyota Corolla (ABC 200 GP), an AK-47 rifle, a locally fabricated rifle, a Jericho 941 pistol, 7.62 x 39mm and 9mm live ammunition, assorted iPhones, US dollars in small denominations, and charms.

According to CP Dantawaye, preliminary investigations indicate the syndicate was responsible for several high-profile robberies, including a hotel heist in Gwagwalada where victims were dispossessed of cash, foreign currency, and phones, a Travel Lodge robbery in Wuse Zone 6 where a police officer was seriously injured, and an apartment raid in Jahi affecting residents and security aides attached to the Executive Governor of Kebbi State.

The police commissioner stated that investigations are ongoing and suspects will be charged to court upon completion. He reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities via the emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
