Tinubu mourns victims of Ibaji boat accident, calls for safer water transport

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commiserated with the government and people of Kogi State over the tragic boat accident in Ibaji Local Government Area on Tuesday, which claimed several lives.
According to reports, the victims were traders travelling from Ibaji to Ilushi market in Edo State when the mishap occurred.
In a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the incident as shocking and deeply unfortunate, noting that the victims were only pursuing their legitimate means of livelihood.
The president commended the swift intervention of first responders at the scene and urged federal, state, and local emergency agencies to intensify efforts in supporting survivors and families of the deceased.
He further appealed to water transport operators to place safety above profit, stressing that stricter adherence to safety measures was crucial to preventing such recurring tragedies.
President Tinubu prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed and wished the injured victims a quick recovery.
