Unpaid Winning Bonuses: Super Eagles halt training ahead of Algeria clash

Players of the Super Eagles have reportedly threatened not to travel to Marrakech for their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match against Algeria, citing unpaid winning bonuses by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

A reliable source within the team told Vanguard that both players and officials are still awaiting payments for victories in four matches—against Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, and Mozambique—from the ongoing tournament.

The source added that while the squad remains committed to the competition, they have refused to train or travel to Marrakech until the outstanding payments are settled.

This is not the first time financial disputes have disrupted the Super Eagles. In November, the team threatened to boycott their 2026 World Cup qualifier against Gabon over similar unpaid entitlements.

In a joint statement by players and staff, the squad confirmed:

> “The full squad, including officials, withheld from training today in Morocco because of unresolved issues with outstanding payments. The Super Eagles are awaiting a quick resolution to continue preparations for Thursday’s game with Gabon.”
