Police repatriate high-profile Chinese fugitive to Beijing
The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the repatriation of a high-profile fugitive, Dai Qisheng, to the People’s Republic of China.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the operation was carried out in collaboration with the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL).
Adejobi disclosed that Qisheng, described as a “notorious gang leader wanted in Guizhou Province, China, for orchestrating and leading violent organised crimes,” fled his country in 2024 after authorities in Zhijin County issued a warrant for his arrest.
The fugitive reportedly sought refuge in Nigeria, but operatives of INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja tracked and apprehended him in the Federal Capital Territory on August 8, 2025.
“Following his arrest, the fugitive was repatriated on August 15, 2025, to Beijing under the established framework of police-to-police cooperation, coordinated by INTERPOL,” Adejobi said.
He described the operation as a milestone that demonstrates the Nigeria Police Force’s determination to combat transnational organised crime.
“This operation not only reaffirms the Nigeria Police Force’s resolve to ensure that no fugitive finds a safe haven within Nigeria but also reflects the strength of international partnerships in addressing the increasingly complex threats of global crime networks,” the statement added.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, also reassured of the Force’s commitment to strengthening global alliances through intelligence-sharing and operational collaboration.
He further stressed that the arrest and repatriation of Dai Qisheng sends a strong message to international criminals, affirming that Nigeria will not serve as a safe haven for fugitives.
