PDP crisis deepens as Wike’s camp announces emergency BoT, NEC meetings
Tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated on Monday after the faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, announced emergency meetings of two of the party’s most powerful organs.
In a notice released by the group’s National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and amplified online by Lere Olayinka, media aide to the FCT Minister, the faction disclosed that both the Board of Trustees (BoT) and the National Executive Committee (NEC) would meet on Tuesday, 18 November, at the PDP national headquarters, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
According to the announcement, the BoT meeting is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., while the NEC session will follow at 2:00 p.m. The statement described members’ attendance as “critical,” stressing that urgent issues affecting the party’s direction would be discussed.
The move comes days after top figures in Wike’s camp — including the FCT Minister himself, Samuel Anyanwu, Ayodele Fayose, Kamaldeen Ajibade, Austin Nwachukwu, and others — were expelled at the national convention held by the rival faction in Ibadan on Saturday. Their expulsion followed a motion moved by Chief Olabode George.
The Ibadan faction also elected Kabiru Turaki as its national chairman, further deepening the division within the party.
