Aminu Tambuwal defects to ADC, cites PDP crisis
Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and ex-Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Tambuwal cited persistent internal crises, leadership disagreements, and growing divisions within the PDP as the main reasons for his decision. He confirmed that he formally communicated his resignation in writing to his ward chairman before joining the ADC alongside his supporters and associates.
Acknowledging the PDP’s role in shaping his political career—including his tenure as Speaker and his second term as Governor of Sokoto State—Tambuwal explained that the ongoing deterioration within the party made continued membership untenable.
“The persistent internal crisis, leadership disagreements, and growing divisions within the PDP have made it increasingly difficult to continue my membership of the party. These developments have unfortunately weakened the unity and direction that once defined the party and have necessitated this decision,” he stated.
On choosing the ADC, Tambuwal said he believes the platform provides a stronger vehicle for democratic progress, built on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and a commitment to national development. He reaffirmed his dedication to democracy, justice, and national unity.
Tambuwal’s move comes amid a wave of high-profile defections to the ADC, including former presidential candidate Peter Obi, positioning the party as a credible opposition ahead of the next electoral cycle.
