Ekiti Police arrest 26-Year-Old suspected cultist, recover loaded gun
The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old suspected cult member, Sunday Samuel, and recovered a locally made gun from him in Efon Alaaye, Efon Local Government Area of the state.
Samuel was arrested at about 11:45pm on August 7 following credible intelligence received by operatives attached to the Efon Police Division concerning his alleged presence in the town.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Sunday Abutu, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Sunday.
According to Abutu, police operatives commenced an investigation immediately after receiving the intelligence, which led to the arrest of the suspect.
“A locally made single-barrel gun loaded with one cartridge and a mobile phone were recovered from him,” the police spokesperson stated.
Following the arrest, the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, CP Michael Falade, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Ado Ekiti for further investigation.
The command said the arrest formed part of ongoing efforts to prevent cult-related activities and other forms of criminality across the state.
Falade assured residents that the police would continue to intensify intelligence-led operations to maintain security and public safety.
The command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing criminal activities.
The police said discreet monitoring, surveillance and other security operations are ongoing across the state.
