National Assembly adjourns plenary to honour Late former President Muhammadu Buhari
The National Assembly has officially adjourned its plenary session to July 22, 2025, in honour of the late former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.
This was confirmed on Monday through a press statement signed by Kamaru Ogunlana, the Clerk to the National Assembly. According to the statement, former President Buhari passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in London, United Kingdom.
To pay respect to the former leader’s legacy and lifelong service to Nigeria, the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives have directed the suspension of all legislative proceedings and activities until Tuesday, July 22.
The National Assembly also urged all its members to adjust their schedules to ensure they fully partake in the burial rites and activities planned in memory of the late statesman.
In the statement, the leadership and members of both chambers extended their deepest sympathies to the government and people of Nigeria, the government and people of Katsina State, and the entire Buhari family.
The late Muhammadu Buhari was described as a leader remembered for his unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s unity, integrity, and public service. The National Assembly prayed for Allah’s mercy upon his soul and for him to be granted eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.
