BREAKING: FG declares Tuesday Public Holiday to honour Late Former President Buhari

The Federal Government has officially declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday to honour the memory of the late former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.
This decision follows the seven-day national mourning period earlier announced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement in a statement released on behalf of the Federal Government after receiving presidential approval. He explained that the holiday was set aside as a mark of respect for Buhari’s contributions to Nigeria’s governance, democracy, and national development.
“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with unwavering dedication, integrity, and a firm commitment to the unity and progress of our beloved country. This public holiday offers all Nigerians a chance to reflect on his life, leadership, and the values he stood for,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo stated.
The Minister called on Nigerians to use the day to promote peace, unity, patriotism, and national cohesion in line with the late leader’s vision for a united and prosperous nation.
As previously announced, national flags are to continue flying at half-mast throughout the seven-day mourning period, which commenced on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
The Federal Government also extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the late president, the government and people of Katsina State, and Nigerians at large, while offering prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul.
