ADC Secretariat vandalized, Party aspirant seek swift action
A governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ekiti State, Hon. Damilola Olatunji, has strongly condemned the recent attack on the party’s state secretariat in Ado-Ekiti, describing it as “a deliberate attempt to intimidate and silence the ADC ahead of the 2026 governorship election.”
The secretariat was reportedly vandalized late Monday night by unknown persons who destroyed office equipment and vital party documents. The attackers, according to witnesses, gained access through the back entrance and fled before security operatives arrived.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Olatunji expressed concern over the growing trend of political violence in the state, urging the police and other relevant agencies to ensure a swift investigation and prosecution of those responsible.
“This unfortunate incident is not just an attack on the ADC, but on democracy itself,” Olatunji said. “We remain committed to peaceful political engagement, and we call on all stakeholders to do the same. Violence and intimidation have no place in Ekiti politics.”
He also appealed to party members to stay calm and law-abiding, assuring them that the ADC remains focused on its mission to deliver credible leadership and good governance to the people of the state.
The ADC State Chairman, Mr. Adewale Fagbemi, confirmed the incident, noting that the party had lodged a formal report with the Ekiti State Police Command. He urged security agencies to beef up surveillance around political offices and prevent further attacks as election activities begin to gather momentum.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Sunday Abutu, said investigations have commenced and promised that those found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
The attack has reignited concerns among political observers over the increasing tension and violence that often characterize pre-election activities in Ekiti State.
