FG launches nationwide Immunisation Campaign to protect Children from Measles, Polio, HPV
The Federal Government has officially kicked off a nationwide campaign for measles, polio, and HPV vaccination, alongside interventions for other neglected tropical diseases.
The launch, which took place on Monday at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Abuja, is part of the country’s plan to eliminate measles by 2030. The strategy includes strengthening routine immunisation, improving surveillance and outbreak response, and integrating measles and rubella initiatives into primary healthcare services.
Officials said the campaign will target 16 million children nationwide, focusing on those aged nine to 14 for the Measles Rubella vaccines.
The event drew key national and religious leaders, including the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sa’ad Abubakar; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi; the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Daniel Okoh; and representatives from international development partners.
The government reiterated its commitment to using innovative technologies and partnerships to strengthen Nigeria’s immunisation system and reduce vaccine-preventable diseases.
