NUJ FCT Honours NYSC Board Chairman Hilliard Eta as Grand Patron
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), under the leadership of Comrade Grace Ike, has honoured the Chairman of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Board, Ntufam Hilliard Eta, by decorating him as the Grand Patron of the Council.
The honour was conferred on him during a public lecture and awards ceremony held as part of this year’s NUJ Press Week celebration at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.
The event, themed “Journalism in a Changing World: Media, Press Freedom, Democracy and Society,” drew several dignitaries and media professionals from across the country.
Eta was decorated by the Chairman of the occasion and former Governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.
In his acceptance remarks, Ntufam Eta expressed appreciation for the recognition and pledged unwavering support to the NUJ FCT Council.
He emphasized his belief in the power of the media to drive national growth and unity.
He also hailed the contributions of Nigerian journalists to national development and stressed the importance of collaboration between government institutions and the press to foster policy reforms and inclusive narratives.
“My position as Grand Patron will go beyond the ceremonial. I intend to be actively involved in initiatives that strengthen press freedom and enhance the welfare of journalists,” Eta said.
“We must build a country where journalists feel respected and safe.”
He reiterated his commitment to working with the union to protect journalistic integrity and ensure the media remains a strong pillar of democracy.
