We accept Supreme Court verdict with ‘respect, grace, and dignity’ – Edo PDP
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has formally accepted the Supreme Court’s decision affirming Monday Okpebholo as the duly elected governor of the state.
Reacting to the judgment delivered on Thursday, the Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee in Edo, Dr Anthony Aziegbemi, said the party received the verdict with utmost respect, grace, and dignity.
Speaking in Benin City, Aziegbemi described the ruling as the conclusion of a long legal process and reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to the rule of law and the democratic process.
“Though the judgment did not go in our favour, we accept it with grace and dignity,” he said.
While acknowledging the Supreme Court’s decision, Aziegbemi maintained that only God remains the ultimate judge of the intentions of the people and the destiny of Edo State.
He noted that Nigeria’s democracy is still evolving, and this moment serves as a reminder of both the progress made and the distance yet to be covered.
The PDP leader expressed deep appreciation to the people of Edo for their faith, courage, and continued support for the party.
“Though we did not get the verdict we hoped for, we are not defeated,” he stated. “Our cause is just, and our commitment to good governance, justice, and development remains unwavering.”
He urged party supporters to remain peaceful and hopeful, insisting that the struggle for a better Edo and a more progressive Nigeria is far from over.
“This is not the end but another chapter in our collective journey,” Aziegbemi added.
He further stressed that the PDP would continue to stand as a voice for the voiceless and a force for positive change in Edo State and beyond.
