Tinubu reaffirms commitment to Nationwide Road Projects
President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to completing and expanding major road infrastructure across Nigeria to enhance national connectivity and development.
Represented by Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, the President made this known on Sunday during the official inauguration of Section Two of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road project.
“My vision is to overhaul Nigeria’s roadways by completing and expanding critical infrastructure projects nationwide,” Tinubu stated. He described the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road as a crucial link connecting the South to the North and assured that his government would ensure seamless mobility across the country.
Tinubu acknowledged that several road projects were initiated under past administrations but emphasized that his government had refined public-private partnerships, addressed funding challenges, and introduced new timelines to fast-track completion.
“In almost two years, we’ve awarded several new road projects, many of which have already been completed to boost trade, productivity, and regional development,” he said.
Highlighting key developments, Tinubu announced the approval of an 11-kilometre extension connecting the road to Aminu Kano International Airport and an additional 10 kilometres between Kogi State and Abuja. He also ordered the installation of solar-powered lights across the highway to ensure safety and visibility.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, described the 700-kilometre Abuja-Kano dual carriageway as a legacy project. He said the concrete-reinforced road would be delivered within 14 months. The road spans 350 kilometres each way, passing through Niger, Kaduna, Zaria, and Kano.
Umahi disclosed that Julius Berger had completed 480 kilometres of the Kano end, with 280 kilometres remaining. He added that Sections One and Three (118 kilometres) were awarded at N252 billion, with 30 per cent of the funds already paid to contractor Infiouest. Section Two, spanning 82 kilometres in each direction (164 kilometres total), is valued at N525 billion.
“The entire project nears a trillion naira and is being executed by Infiouest, which has been endorsed as a reliable contractor,” Umahi said, adding that the ministry would revisit the site in 30 days for further assessment.
Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, described President Tinubu as a transformational leader whose projects span every part of the country.
“We deeply appreciate your efforts; your impact is felt nationwide,” Goronyo said, citing developments in Illela (Sokoto), Lagos, and Badagry as evidence of Tinubu’s all-inclusive leadership.
Goronyo urged communities to support the contractors and government towards building a more prosperous Nigeria.
