FG declares May 1 Public Holiday to mark Workers’ Day

The Federal Government has officially declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, as a public holiday in honour of this year’s Workers’ Day celebration.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who spoke on behalf of the government. He stressed the importance of maintaining peace to support the country’s drive for industrialisation and economic development.

In a statement released on Tuesday night and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Minister praised Nigerian workers for their commitment and sacrifices. He acknowledged that the hard work of the country’s workforce plays a key role in Nigeria’s achievements and its recognition on the global stage.

“There is dignity in labour; the dedication and commitment to the work we do is vital to nation-building,” the Minister stated.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo further urged workers to embrace innovation and increase their productivity. He called on them to uplift the standards of their various professions, which, according to him, would help improve governance and ensure that all Nigerians enjoy the country’s resources.

He reassured citizens that the present administration remains dedicated to safeguarding lives and property, both for Nigerians and foreigners residing in the country.

As he wished workers a joyful celebration, the Minister encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful, assuring that President Bola Tinubu’s government remains committed to fulfilling the Renewed Hope Agenda.
