I Made ₦10m Monthly Selling Akara, Bread Before Politics — Umo Eno
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has revealed that he made not less than ₦10 million monthly from selling akara and bread before venturing into politics.
Eno made the disclosure while recounting his entrepreneurial journey at a public gathering, where he explained how he started with a small akara and bread business before expanding into a coffee shop.
According to the governor, he combined akara and bread to create what he described as an “Akara Burger”, which became popular among customers, particularly workers heading to their places of work.
“We still have that shop there. I started selling Akara and bread. Back then, I was doing Akara Burger. We open the bread and put it inside for you,” Eno said.
He explained that people heading to ExxonMobil were among those who patronised the business in the mornings.
“People going to Exxon Mobil will buy it in the morning, take coffee. We started coffee shop and then they will take it,” he added.
Eno said the business later grew into a significant source of income, generating at least ₦10 million every month.
“Every month, that Akara business and Bread used to give me nothing less than ₦10 million in a month,” the governor said.
“Not less than that,” he added.
The governor’s account has generated discussion online, particularly over the scale of income he said he was able to generate from the akara and bread business before entering politics.
His remarks also come amid renewed public attention on akara and other small-scale businesses following comments by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu encouraging Nigerians to explore small businesses as a means of generating income.
Eno’s disclosure offers an insight into his business activities before his political career, highlighting his early involvement in food and hospitality ventures.
