JAMB reacts to Caleb University Hijab controversy during UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has responded to a recent incident at Caleb University where candidates wearing hijabs were reportedly subjected to unauthorised restrictions during the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

In a statement signed by the Board’s Public Communication Adviser, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB disclosed that swift steps had been taken to address the matter. The Board explained that the incident was caused by the actions of an overzealous security officer, which did not reflect the board’s official policy.

JAMB tendered an apology to the affected candidates and commended both the leadership of the examination centre and the university for their timely intervention, which prevented any candidate from being unfairly treated or disadvantaged.

The board reassured the public of its commitment to ensuring that all candidates are treated with fairness and respect, irrespective of religious or cultural affiliations.
